25 Random Things

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

Got tagged on this on facebook.  I tend to avoid these things but I suppose it can’t hurt.

If you these on facebook and you got tagged  you’re supposed to write your own note of 25 random things, facts, habits or goals about yourself and then choose 25  people to tag including me since I tagged you…  I think if you don’t something bad happens.
1. My first official girlfriend was my wife and I was her first boyfriend.   There was the time for about a week when I was in the 5th grade and a 6th grade girl told me I was her boyfriend but I don’t count that.
2. I got turned down more times when I asked girls out than I had dates before I met Robin.  I am glad now.
3. The best martial advice I ever received was to pray that my wife always would be the standard for me when it comes to attractiveness. It helps that I am married to Robin.
4.  I have little 3 boys who I enjoy & love immensely.
5.  I wish I spent more time with my wife and kids and less on the computer and watching TV.
6. I never flew in a plane nor traveled west of the Georgia state line until I graduated from college.
7.  I have been to every continent but Antarctica.
8. I love to travel but don’t like leaving Robin and the boys.
9.  I have liked a lot of cool places but I like Africa the best.
10.  I have only worked for our organization since college – Campus Crusade for Christ – but have had 6 jobs with CCC.
11. Four of those jobs/roles came within the first 7 years.
12.  I have had the same job (Associate Regional Director for Worldwide Student Network) for over 10 years now which is amazing since I live for change.  It helps that this role is all about change and new places.
13.  Even though I like those I work with in my office, I am closer to the friends I work with on a dispersed national team.   Maybe it has something to do that we have the same passions.
14.  There are only 3 other guys who have been around WSN as long as I have.
15. I miss some folks that used to work with WSN – Dave, Scott, Jeff, Donny, Rich L. etc.
16. I miss Paul Townsend.
17.  In the past 10 years, I had given leadership to have 17 different national conferences that have helped train CCC staff & students to serve overseas for a summer or a year.
18. My favorite by far is the two times leading the STINT Team Leaders Training (05 & 06) because of the size of the group, the type of leaders and the community established.
19.  I have had a book in my head for almost two years but never seem to have time to finish it and not sure anyone would read it.
20.  I like reading but I have a lot of unfinished books around my house.
21.  I love coffee.
22.  I drive a 93 Camry with 150,000 miles, no power windows or locks, a cassette player and a broken antenna.
23.  I laughed when i heard recently that Americans said in these tough economic times that they would be least likely to give up their health club membership and cable.  I have neither.
24. Thoughts of world poverty – like that 1 billion will go hungry tonight or that 18,000 children will starve today because of malnutrition today – haunt me.  But not enough that I cut back on what I eat.
25.  My dad is my hero.   I wish I was more like him.  I want to be my sons’ hero.

The Super Bowl

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Wonder which one of the guys from my fantasy football team will do better this Sunday – Kurt Warner or Hines Ward? Considering my team was so crappy, though it doesn’t count, it will still give something for my sad pathetic life.

Though I would have loved to have seen my Falcons get past the Cards and go on the same run to the Supper Bowl, I will spend Sunday hoping for a good game and rooting for UGA grad Hines Ward & Northern Colorado grad Aaron Smith.

Oral-B Kids Toothpaste

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

Just wondering why the Cars version of Oral B’s Kids Stages toothpaste has a picture of Mater on it?  Is he really the right role model for kids to brush their teeth or a subtle warning?

Someone Needs to Get Bill a Cup of Coffee

I personally like how each time he wakes up that he nods his head like he was listening.

Lost Premeire Tonight

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Thanks to Orangejack for keeping me abreast to Lost.  Enjoyed the synchronized update … at least update as far as crash goes.

My 5 top theories for this year….
1.  Jack will continue to get on my nerves.
2. Sawyer will come up with some funny nicknames but I will miss many of them.  None will make me fall in the floor laughing as much as last season when he called Frank Lapidus “Kenny Rogers”.   I am laughing as I recall it.
3. Locke will be the man in the coffin, Desmond & Penny will reunite and Michael will be Ben’s man on the boat… oh wait a minute that was last season.

4. Some main character will die. I don’t want to say who it will be and spoil it for you.  But it will be big.  Big, I tell you.
5. We will meet these guys on the island this year.   But they will be like ghosts or something.

Working out on the Home Gym in Gingham

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Luke – Ben and Ellie said they were stronger than me because they are home schooled.

Now if they meant ‘smarter’, they actually proved the opposite.

Drinking coffee reduces risk of Alzheimer’s

Friday, January 16th, 2009

I am drinking a grande cup of Anniversary Blend to this news.

On an aside, I find it interesting on news that drinking coffee aids your health, that Yahoo has a picture of someone smoking while drinking a cup of joe.

Maybe for the full affect, I should go outside and light up.   Otherwise I might forget why I am drinking coffee.

Breaking and Entering

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

I guess I have something to look forward to next year when Jack and Drew turn 4.

But really… what’s a 4 year old doing up at 3 am?  And why was a door to a department store unlocked at that hour?  And if you were going to play with toys at 3 am wouldn’t you have chosen another store besides Family Dollar?

Brrrrrrrrrr

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Weather Channel said it was-18°F this am. Now it’s a blamy -4°F with a predicated high of 12 today.

Glad we got to spend warm Saturday afternoon outside at a park.

Sorry $48 a Hour is just Not Enough

Friday, December 12th, 2008

It would be laughable that the UAW was unwilling to adjust salary to Toyota’s workers level ($99,840 a year instead if $143,520) in order to get govt buyout if it wasn’t so disgusting that our elected officials were considering to give Big3 anything anyway.   (Yes, I count pension & health care.)

Okay people will get laid off but better a surgery than a band aid.   Come on the bailout ain’t gonna save them. It’s a money pit.  Their union contracts and the way they do business is a slow bleed.  And no one
needs to buy a new car.   The only way this industry survives is to become a starfish.
