Compassion for a Bug

So the PETA wackos lambasted the President for killing a fly.   I guess they would be opposed if Obama installed a bug zapper at the white house.   Heaven forbid if it was Bush.   They would have called for his head quicker then you could say “Michael Vick”.

On one hand its shake-your-head funny.  But one another hand is truly sad at how we have become so twisted in our society.  Elevating compassion for a bug.  I assume they would be against the efforts to genetically modify the Anopheles mosquito – the mosquito that carries Malaria.   And yet Malaria kills a 1 million people every year.  If successful, this effort could save a million people – mostly kids, mostly pregnant women, mostly living in extreme poverty.  Malaria is the leading cause of death and disease in many developing countries.

So which would you have more compassion for – one species of mosquito among 3000 species or 1 million people a year?
